What Is A "Pier?"
A pier is an engineered structural support that can be attached to the foundation at strategic points in order to stabilize and lift structure. Traditionally there have been two types of piers - Helical and Push Piers. A-1 Concrete Leveling and Foundation Repair has incorporated the best of both systems into the Quad Power Pier. A-1's Quad Power provides the largest surface area of a helical, the greater depth of a push pier, adds the strength of concrete encased in steel.

Installing Piers
Pier installation comes in a variety of forms: interior, exterior, location augured, location excavated and fully excavated. While all methods can be used to stabilize, in order to obtain optimum recovery, the entire foundation should be excavated (to top of footer). This eliminates side friction and vertical load created by the pressure of the surrounding soil, allows for the foundation to be inspected and permits the void created by the lift to be filled.
"Span" is tthe distance between piers. To accurately determine the correct "span" and pier placement, it is best to examine the condition of the foundation and evaluate the weight of the structure. By fully excavating the foundation, A-1 Concrete Leveling and Foundation Repair is able to inspect the condition of the foundation, reduce side friction and vertical load. This method, although more invasive, insures proper placement of piers and optimum recovery. |
